Introduction to Mechanical Engineering

There are many professions that make our lives easy that we don't really think about. Mechanical engineering is definitely one - a profession with which society would not even exist as it does now.

As with any other trade, there are many different types of engineering. What is mechanical engineering comprised of? Well, the people that study this discipline apply basic physic principles to design, manufacturing, and maintenance of various mechanical systems. In short, these people help to create robots, machines, automobiles, aircrafts, ventilation systems, watercraft, industrial equipment, medical equipment, and military equipment (among many other things). Why is this sort of trade important?

You might say that without the people that study this sort of engineering, the world may suddenly come to a very abrupt halt (quite literally). Without these people, certain machines would not exist - let alone function. Many of the trades people that learn about this discipline often help to solve various industrial and governmental problems - in short, these people are really irreplaceable.

You may think that a form of machine or robot could easily take the place of a person in this field, but this cannot happen. Why? In order for a machine or robot to function, someone has to maintain it ... and others have to build it (as you can see, removing either person from the robot process would not be possible). What is mechanical engineering based upon? This type of mechanics goes all the way back to Ancient Greece.

The original mechanic was Archimedes (287 BC-212 BC), and without his written knowledge, hardly a person would be able to study this type of engineering today. Many historians also believe that there were a large number of mechanics in Ancient China, and various notable figures throughout the ancient world (in it's entirety) have contributed to the study of mechanics along the way. Quite amazingly, the world has never really been without some form of mechanics, which makes this trade one of the oldest on earth.

To go back to our earlier question - what is mechanical engineering? - this type of learning is both ancient and modern, but it is certain that the world could not live without this trade today. The next time that you meet a person within this field, ask them about the different projects that they work on ... you may be amazed to discover that these people effect your life more than you may know.

Electrical Engineer Training and Courses

An electrical engineer is an engineer that deals with and develops electrical systems. An electrical engineer has the ability to work in various areas that involve electricity; cities powers grids, computer technology, and even car repair. If you want to become an electrical engineer you will need a college degree. You must also be predisposition to creative and inventive thought processes. The average starting salary for an electrical engineer is around forty thousand dollars a year.

To begin your electrical engineer training you must enroll in an electrical engineer training program at an accredited university or trade school. Most colleges have a list of things you have to complete before enrolling in an engineering program. Some of these things might include learning assessments, remedial courses to refresh any subjects you may be having difficulty with, or courses that are pre requisites to the beginning engineering courses. Pre requisites are course materials that must be completed to a certain degree of satisfaction before being accepted into a degree program. For engineering these will probably include several math and science courses.

When accepted you will then be required to take course work relating to and only to electrical engineer training. The course work includes but is not limited to, computer programming, electrical circuits, engine/machinery technologies, calculus, integrated circuits, and maybe robotics or power systems and communication systems. It is very important to know that any electrical engineer training will be based heavily on math and physics.

Typically in the course of completing electrical training you will be required to participate in some form of internship or apprenticeship. This is to ensure you have learned all the things you need in order to do the job. During the course of an internship you will be required to shadow an experience electrical engineer as well as perform tasks that would be expected for your job description. It has been found that on the job training helps to better prepare the student for situations that cannot be simulated in a class setting.

It is important to realize that many employers will require a master's degree or higher before employing you in a lead engineer position. After completing your degree there is a licensing process to complete as well. This is a three part process. During the course of your master's degree you will often complete the first requirement which is to take and pass the Initial Fundamentals of Engineering exam. This will qualify you as an engineer in training. You have to hold this position for no less than two years during which you will gain on the job knowledge that will prepare you for your final licensing exam.

This exam is called the Principles and Practice of Engineering. After completing this exam you will be considered a fully licensed engineer. While it is a long process the benefits of receiving proper electrical engineer training far outweigh the costs. Often you can even short cut the process by completing a few courses ahead of time while you are enrolled in High school.

Reverse Engineering

Reverse Engineering is a process for the analysis of technology for ascertaining how it was designed or the way it operates. This inquiry engages the individuals constructively in the learning process concerning the operation of the products and systems. As a method, reverse engineering is not only confined to a particular purpose, but it is often a very important part in the technological development and scientific method.

But, every good thing comes with some hitches. Reverse engineering is an expensive and time consuming process, hence the engineers involved in the process usually consider the financial risk involved in these endeavors. They consider the risk against the licensing or purchasing of the information from the manufacturer of the original product.

Generally, four stages are followed in the process of reverse engineering.

o First Phase: In the first phase the engineers identify the component or the product which has to be reverse engineered. This stage is sometimes referred to as Prescreening. Potential components of such projects include parts, items, units, etc.

o Second Phase: The second phase involves disassembling or observing of the information documentation. This is the most time engaging aspect in the project. This phase involves the accumulation of all the instructions and technical data about the working of the product.

o Third Phase: The third phase is of the implementation. In this phase the engineers verify the validity and the accuracy of the designs by testing and experimenting with them.

o Fourth Phase: This is the final phase which concerns with the creation of the new product. The new product is then introduced in the market.

To sum it all up, reverse engineering is the creation of a different product with similar functions.
